How SwingSmart Golf Analyzer Was Born
NewSpin Golf was founded by Angelo Papadourakis, with a very simple idea:
Angelo wanted the device to be small, portable, and give feedback quickly out on the range or on the course. "It was originally going to be just a device for me, but I realized that all golfers could use a swing trainer device like this to help them get better at golf."
It all began in 2006 at the PGA Championship at Medinah when Angelo went to the range to watch the players work with their coaches. After watching some of the other players, he noticed one player (Thomas Bjorn) getting instruction from his coach like it was the first time he had ever played the game. The coach was literally grabbing Bjorn’s club and moving it to each position in the swing and telling him,
Angelo looked at that and said to himself:
“If a professional golfer still needs basic instruction on his club positions, how can we amateurs go to the range, hit some golf balls with no feedback, and somehow think we are going to get better --without anything or anyone providing FEEDBACK about our swings?”
After doing some research on micro electrical mechanical systems (MEMS) and their use in measuring motion, Angelo knew the device could be made. In early 2007, Angelo began working with (now NewSpin Chief Technology Officer) Tom McClaughry to begin development of the swing trainer. The partners, together with a dedicated group of engineers based in Illinois and California, designed and implemented the technology that became the SwingSmart Golf Analyzer.
The SwingSmart Golf Analyzer is extremely lightweight, and it communicates via a Bluetooth wireless connection with the golfer's smart phone or tablet. After the golfer takes a swing, the data is transferred so quickly to the smart phone or tablet that the numbers are literally in front of you INSTANTLY -- before the ball lands.
The SwingSmart Golf Analyzer uses a patent-pending hardware design along with proprietary unified Swing Algorithms to take the sensor data and display it to the golfer in an easy-to-read, free mobile App.
The free SwingSmart App will show 4 key statistics:
In addition to these 4 key numbers, the SwingSmart Golf Analyzer also shows your golf swing motion in 3D from a side or top view – a complete 360 degree view.
The ideas Angelo and Tom had about developing a golf swing trainer started out with understanding a golfer's needs, and then seeing if they could make the technology work.
SwingSmart Golf Analyzer will help you enjoy golf more!
